I’ve been looking everywhere for a reference of this particular recording of Superman for one special reason. My father who died in 2002 plays the timpani on it (or some sort of percussion i’m not 100% sure) and is listed in this booklet under percussion (Raymond Lomax).
It’s just so nice to see some part of him somehow lives on, and only being 5 when he died it’s nice to have things like this to listen to and remember him by so thank you for posting this!

Officer Mooney was played by my Dad George Harris II. He loved that role and working with Mr. Reeve. My family has written a book about growing up on off off Broadway and there is a chapter about Dad with info about Superman.

I had a summer job at the CBS Broadcast Center in New York City during the Summer of 1974.

My office was in Room 6400 at 518 West 57 Street, one floor above the “Love of Life” office which was in Room 5400.

I used to visit the control rooms of “Love of Life” and “As the World Turns” daily during my lunch hour.

I got to chat with Jean Arley, Thomas de Villiers, Robert Kochman, Ray Wise, Deborah Courtney, and others from “Love of Life.”

I was sitting in the control room of “Love of Life” during the dress rehearsal of the episode in which Christopher Reeve first appeared.

Larry Auerbach was directing the episode.

Larry got annoyed at the announcer, Ken Roberts, who was kidding around during the opening billboard, speculating as to who Ben was and whether he was going to be Meg’s new lover.

Larry yelled at Ken, “All I want to hear out of you is ‘This is Love of Life’ and that’s it!!!”

In 1976, I took organ lessons from Eddie Layton who was the musical director and organist of “Love of Life” during part of 1973 and 1974.

Eddie played for other CBS shows such as “The Secret Storm,” “Love is a Many Splendored Thing,” and “Where the Heart Is.”

Thomas de Villiers was the Associate Producer of “Love is a Many Splendored Thing” and knew Eddie prior to both of them moving to “Love of Life.”

I was friendly with Charlie Paul who was the musical director and organist of “Love of Life” during part of the 1960s up until the time when Eddie Layton took over.

By the time Christopher Reeve started on “Love of Life,” Carey Gold was the musical director who gave the show a “more modern” sound.

Here’s my rendition of one of Charlie Paul’s opening themes to “Love of Life”:

Here’s my rendition of Eddie Layton’s version of the opening theme to “Love is a Many Splendored Thing”:

Christopher was an extremely talented actor.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching his performances on “Love of Life.”

On one occasion, we passed each other walking through the second floor scenic storage area of the CBS Broadcast Center and said hi.

Chris was carrying a gym bag and was drinking a can of Coke at the time.

Thank you for these photos. It’s photos like these we never see and are truly the best. BJ is adorable. I used to have a Golden, they are the best.

Valcilda March 1, 2016 - 5:06 am

Yep, that deserved to be cut! I’m prttey familiar with the story and I barely understood it. And I must say that even as a bit of a sci fi nut I have problems with the evidently rather fragile crystalline spaceship with no apparent power source. And where did his clothes go after the kryptonite meteor swarm?Meh.

skaizun July 5, 2016 - 5:18 am

It should also be noted that the young Lois Lane’s father, sitting across from Noel Neill, was portrayed by and credited given to Kirk Alyn, who starred in the eponymous role of the late 1940s movie serial, Superman!

Jason July 16, 2020 - 4:55 am

Wow….I never realized this (about Neill and Alyn)!! I thought the older lady looked familiar. But technically, they should be Lois Lane’s grandparents based on their ages. But in either case, these are really cool cameos.

what’s on the other side of the cards, I remember in the 80’s or 70’s the superman cards in uk had pictures on one side and then when you had collected the full set, you turn them over and they would make a full size picture of superman .

Mauricio November 1, 2016 - 9:55 pm

Christopher Reeve is not just the best Superman. He is the only one.

Danny McKinney October 1, 2017 - 1:24 pm

I enjoy watching the 4 Superman films of Christopher Reeve since I was really young ? I got DVD’s of them.
